Transitions are challenging, especially at various points in your pathway to a career. Often, students default to the well-trodden academic pathway that is expected of them, like going on to a Ph.D. or postdoc, instead of exploring options that may inspire them. Indeed, there are many careers in academia beyond the traditional tenure-track professor. It is important to be intentional during transitions and to make purposeful decisions. In order to do this, it is essential to understand your “WHY” - a statement of purpose. Think about your values and interests. Why are you in grad school? Why are you interested in an academic career? Why do certain activities or people motivate and inspire you?
This interactive workshop will explore these important questions and give you tools to implement your WHY to find your place in academia.
