New episodes monthly

ChatGPD is a graduate professional development podcast hosted by Dr. Pamela Plant, designed to support graduate students.
Through candid conversations with alumni who have embarked on diverse and inspiring career paths, we invite our guests to share their journeys, lessons learned, and how their time at IMS helped shape their careers.
ChatGPD Podcast Episode 4 - Science, Creatively: From Sketches to Science Communication
In this episode we chat with Avesta Rastan, Medical Illustrator and Scientific Visualization Specialist, and graduate of IMS' MSc in Biomedical Communications program. Avesta walks us through her self-made path in science communication, where she has found creative ways to bring art and science together across both freelance and industry roles.
She shares how she built her career from the ground up, starting with creating infographics for the public, designing covers for Nature, and collaborating directly with researchers. She also discusses her thoughts on the ethical and environmental challenges of using AI in illustration, as well as its potential as a tool rather than a replacement. Along the way, Avesta offers practical advice for anyone considering a less traditional career path and shares a variety of resources to make medical illustration more accessible, even without a formal background.
