The Institute of Medical Science is committed to financially supporting graduate students from underrepresented groups. We recognize that financial barriers can have a significant impact on whether a student applies to graduate school and if they can graduate on time, if at all. The IMS is therefore continuously making efforts to provide additional funding to IMS graduate students, to supplement their graduate student stipend.
As part of the IMS' mandate to support initiatives related to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and to be a more proactive participant in fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment, we are annually awarding up to five EDI bursaries (per bursary type) each year to current and prospective IMS students. The purpose of these bursaries is to financially support students from underrepresented groups, specifically those who are Black or Indigenous and economically disadvantaged.
