Research Synopsis

My research involves projects related to immunohematology and infectious diseases. Currently, I am interested in inflammatory and anti-inflammatory macrophages as to their Fc receptor interactions with various antibodies to red blood cells as well as phagocytosis in sickle cell disease. I am also interested in antibody-independent natural killer cell activity against red blood cells in people with unexplained hemolysis. My interest in infectious disease currently involves SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis, in particular, a role for the ABO blood group system. I also am trying to develop a surrogate coronavirus that could be used in a containment level 2 environment instead of the requirement for a containment level 3 laboratory in order to study SARS-CoV-2.
