Research Synopsis

My research focuses on neuroimaging to prevent stroke and cognitive impairment. Past projects included studies on MRI mapping of cerebrovascular reserve, many of the early studies on intracranial blood vessel wall imaging (PMID 27469212), research on the clinical importance of non-stenotic carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque (PMID 27412144) and carotid artery webs (PMID 27864523), and description of critical illness-associated cerebral microbleeds (PMID 28235962). My current research is on acute cerebral microinfarcts as a potential biomarker of cerebral small vessel disease activity. This research was featured in a N.I.H. public health campaign on stroke prevention, and our ongoing work is funded by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
