Research Synopsis:

The goal of my research program is to provide thoracic surgeons with access to novel, high-quality assays and algorithms that enhance clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes.
To achieve this goal, my lab focuses on three foundational research activities:

1. The discovery of novel biomarkers to predict patient outcomes. The goal of this work is to identify novel biomarkers that can be used to predict pre-transplant and ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) outcomes, post-transplant outcomes, and response to therapy.

2. The development of assays to actualize biomarker testing. Biomarker discovery represents the foundation for medical devices; however, translation of biomarkers into diagnostic tests remains a significant barrier to routine clinical adoption. My lab focuses on: (i) engineering novel, in house biomedical devices, and (ii) establishing leading-edge collaborations with biotechnology partners.

3. The use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to integrate multiple biomarkers and augment clinical decision-making. This work uses cutting-edge machine learning techniques to better understand and analyze the wealth of medical data generated during organ transplantation.
