The IMS is thrilled to be launching ChatGPD, a graduate professional development podcast designed to support our students.
ChatGPD is the brainchild of Pamela Plant, IMS' Director of Graduate Professional Development, who also serves as the podcast host. It was created and is being led in collaboration with IMS students Ilakkiah Chandran and Emily Yeung.
IMS alumni have excelled in diverse fields, including academia, industry, healthcare, public health, science communication, and beyond. Their success often reflects their learnings—both academic and extra-curricular—during their time at IMS.
Yet many students aren't aware of these potential career trajectories, and the steps needed to navigate to them during their graduate studies.
To bridge this gap, ChatGPD aims to highlight the accomplishments of IMS alumni while offering actionable guidance to students as they explore their professional and personal growth. Through candid conversations, guests share their experiences, challenges, and advice they wish they had during grad school.
Topics will include navigating the job market, leveraging transferable skills, securing professional connections, and building resilience in the face of professional challenges.
We hope the podcast will have a deep and lasting impact on students, by helping inform their journey while providing reassurance and encouragement.Pamela Plant, IMS Director of Graduate Professional Development
Whether listeners are tuning in while doing laundry, commuting, or winding down in the evening, the podcast provides accessible and engaging content tailored to IMS students.
In ChatGPD's inaugural episode, Step Away from the Bench, Pamela sits down with Michelle Dubinsky, a Medical Science Liaison and PhD graduate.
She reveals how she strategically leveraged her degree and extracurricular experiences to develop essential skills, build a strong network, and transition into the MSL role.
Michelle takes listeners behind the scenes of a typical day, highlights the most valuable skill in her career, encourages current students to understand themselves beyond their degrees, and offers insights into the evolving landscape of the industry.
