Research Synopsis

Dr. Siddiqui’s research focus is on perioperative patient safety and education. He has particular interest in education and outcomes related to aseptic techniques while performing regional anesthesia and analgesia. Dr. Siddiqui’s research on the importance of teaching related to aseptic technique to anesthesia trainees has been published extensively and he has developed and validated a simple cost effective, model and a video for teaching principles of aseptic technique to anesthesia trainees while performing epidurals.

Another important focus of Dr. Siddiqui’s research and teaching is the application of ultrasound in airway management. He has published the first randomized control trial comparing the cricothyrotomy outcomes with and without the use of ultrasound. The results of his work on this subject may lead to modification of current difficult airway algorithms; that is to incorporate the use of pre-procedure ultrasound to identify obscure anatomical landmarks for emergency surgical airway access.
