Research Synopsis

My research program focuses on developing and implementing novel pharmacokinetic quantification methodologies for brain positron emission tomography (PET) studies, with a particular emphasis on noninvasive approaches designed to reduce participant burden. PET is an imaging modality that helps us assess brain function by tracking the distribution of radioactive compounds (radiotracers) in the body. These PET scans are important for studying brain disorders and developing new treatments. One of the challenges with PET measurements is the need to collect arterial blood to obtain accurate measurements. This process, known as arterial sampling, can be uncomfortable, complex, and may discourage participation in research studies, especially among vulnerable groups like the elderly or people living with dementia. To address these challenges, we are developing less invasive techniques to measure brain function with PET data without compromising accuracy.
