Research Synopsis:

Dr. Probst’s research is concerned with substance use and addictions across large populations, with a focus on the social determinants of substance use and its broad impacts on society. Dr. Probst has established a program of research that aims to understand the mechanisms underlying the growing socioeconomic inequalities in health, with a focus on alcohol-related health outcomes from a global perspective. Furthermore, Dr. Probst’s research involves the development of tangible intervention strategies to reduce socioeconomic inequalities in the alcohol-related health burden. Dr. Probst is currently leading a five-year study funded by the US National Institutes of Health to advance health equity and reverse the current decrease in life expectancy in the US attributable to alcohol-related factors.
