Research Synopsis

Antonio P. Strafella is a neurologist with expertise in movement disorders and functional brain imaging. He developed a clinical research program in movement disorders and neuroimaging (PET and fMRI) to investigate the pathophysiology of motor, cognitive (e.g., executive dysfunction, etc.) and behavioural symptoms (e.g., pathological gambling, dopamine dysregulation, reward system, visual hallucinations) in Parkinson's disease (PD). His lab also combines molecular PET imaging with brain stimulation (transcranial magnetic stimulation, deep brain stimulation) techniques to study functional connectivity and receptor binding in the human brain. Dr. Strafella's research studies have been funded by several granting agencies including CIHR, CFI, Canada Parkinson's Society, National Parkinson Foundation, Parkinson Disease Foundation, Tourette Syndrome Association, E. J. Safra Foundation, Ontario Gambling Research Centre and Canada Research Chair Program.
