Andrea Gershon
Research Synopsis
Dr. Gershon’s award winning research and knowledge translation program uses ‘Big Data’ to learn from the real-world experiences of people living with lung disease with a focus on vulnerable groups. Her clinical studies evaluate the use of remote monitoring and wearables in people with respiratory disease. She is currently leading a national, multicentre study on the respiratory effects of long COVID.
Dr. Gershon translates her findings to practical improvements that benefit real patients. Her investigation of respiratory medications and quality of respiratory care have informed clinical guidelines; her burden of disease studies have led to substantially more resources dedicated to asthma and COPD initiatives by government; and her research provides the foundation for Canada’s respiratory disease surveillance system as well as knowledge to inform Ontario respiratory disase policy, and patient, hospital and health district respiratory programs across Canada.
