Dr. Ortiz’ research focuses on patients with mood disorders, particularly those with bipolar disorder. The overarching goal of her career is to address a problem in Psychiatry that has been intractable to date: making actionable clinical predictions for individual patients. For her research, Dr. Ortiz uses wearable devices and new analytical approaches based on tools from Mathematics and Physics (nonlinear techniques) to understand mood regulation and to forecast episodes of illness. Dr. Ortiz research has been funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
