Research Synopsis

I am a certified medical illustrator and an assistant professor in the Biomedical Communications graduate program(BMC), Institute of Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, and in the Department of Biology, University of Toronto Mississauga. My background includes a diploma in drawing and painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design, a Master of Science in Biomedical Communications from the University of Toronto, and a PhD in English literature from McMaster University. I am a faculty mentor for the Collaborative Graduate Program in Women’s Health, University of Toronto, and since 2012 have been inaugural illustrator-in-residence in the Faculty of Medicine.

At BMC, I teach graduate courses in pathological illustration, research methods in biomedical communications, and graphic medicine. At the undergraduate level I have taught courses in bioscientific visualization (an introduction to observational illustration in science) and writing for healthcare.
