Research synopsis
As a practicing family physician, my efforts as an implementation scientist focusing on quality improvement in health services is grounded in the real-world needs of my patients. Although the vast majority of my colleagues are highly skilled and motivated, quality gaps and undesirable variation in the delivery of health treatments and services remain, resulting in sub-optimal outcomes for patients and for the system as a whole. My career is focused on addressing these gaps in a patient-centred manner. I have recently developed a number of partnerships with organizations holding health data to explore how the use of such data can enable more reliable healthcare decisions. In particular, I have focused on understanding the evidence for how feedback regarding past performance to clinicians (i.e., ‘audit and feedback’) can alter their future patient care.
