Research Synopsis

Dr. Cusimano is a professor of Surgery, Education, and Public Health at the University of Toronto and a skull base and endoscopic neurosurgeon at St. Michael's Hospital, with cross-appointments at Toronto Western Hospital and SickKids. He directs both the Injury Prevention Research Office (IPRO) and the Clinical Neurosciences Computational Lab.

The labs' work advances knowledge in clinical neurosurgery, injury prevention, public health and policy, and brain health. This research spans clinical studies, population health, computational modelling, clinical trials, and geospatial analysis. He collaborates with scientists across medicine, social sciences, computer science, engineering, basic sciences, public health, and biostatistics.

Dr. Cusimano also has specific interests in medical and surgical education, brain tumours (including pituitary tumours and meningiomas), traumatic brain injury, subdural hematoma, mechanisms of brain recovery, early diagnosis, and quality of life.
