Type
Lecture

IMS PhD students Archita Srinath and Megana Thamilselvan will speak to our summer undergraduate research program (SURP) students about their research and experience in graduate school.

Talk Title: Developing Novel Therapeutics for Inflammatory Arthritis: somewhere between the Bench and Bedside

Archita Srinath is a 5th year PhD candidate studying novel therapeutic targets for spondyloarthritis patients using pre-clinical mouse and bioinformatic models. She is also a multiple award-winning presenter and science communicator, co-founder of the Institute of Medical Science: MedDash (a novel STEM outreach initiative for populations underrepresented in medicine), a teaching assistant with over 6 years of experience in teaching and mentorship, as well as the SURP Assistant.

Megana Thamilselvan is an accomplished PhD candidate and student leader whose research investigates genetic markers of antipsychotic response in schizophrenia. She works with large datasets (including genetic data) to identify predictors of treatment response, in order to advance precision medicine. Megana is well-versed in data manipulation, visualization and biostatistical analyses in the R coding environment. She also has experience as a teaching assistant and has been heavily involved in the Life Sciences Career Development Syndicate and the Institute of Medical Science Students' Association.
