Research Synopsis
The Brumell Lab is working to understand how intracellular pathogens interact with their hosts to subvert cellular immunity and adapt host processes to their advantage.
Although we primarily focus on Salmonella and Listeria, we have been recently expanding the common themes identified in these bacterial models to other pathogens including parasites such as Trypanosoma. By studying host-pathogen interactions, we are able to discover unique aspects of cell biology such as membrane dynamics, intracellular trafficking and autophagy.
