The IMS, in collaboration with the Peer-to-Peer Mentorship Program and IMSSA, is excited to be hosting IMS Connects: Working in Academia at the Donnelley Centre (Red Room).

Meet our panelists:

  • Sara Sharifpoor is a member of the senior administrative leaders for the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. As the Director for the office of Research and Health Science Education at Temerty Medicine at the University of Toronto, Sara’s portfolio covers all administrative matters pertaining to research (pre- and post-award management, research development, and operations including core facilities), and educational programs in health sciences from curriculum development to award administration and student services.
  • Daniel Felsky is a Koerner New Scientist and head of Whole Person and Population Modelling in the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. He is also an assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Division of Biostatistics, Dalla Lana School of Public Health, at the University of Toronto, and adjunct faculty at Baycrest Hospital and the University of Waterloo. Dr. Felsky received his PhD at IMS and completed Postdoctoral Fellowships at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard, and Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Felsky’s research aims to bridge traditional siloes of mental health research by combining cross-disciplinary data types with cutting-edge statistical and machine learning approaches, while conceptualizing mental illness and wellness as a product of the brain and body.
  • Sarah Selvadurai is a Research Coordinator at Humber River Health. She completed her Master of Science with the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto in 2017, where her thesis examined the effects of general anesthesia and associated behavioural changes in children undergoing elective surgery. Since then, Sarah has worked across diverse research areas, including neurology, oncology, cardiology, and population health, with expertise in study design, protocol management, literature reviews, data collection and analysis, and grant writing. She has also led and contributed to several peer-reviewed publications advancing knowledge in the diagnosis and management of pediatric sleep disorders.
  • Keith Colaço is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in Human Health and Disease in the Department of Health and Society at the University of Toronto Scarborough. He is also cross-appointed to the Division of Rheumatology in the Department of Medicine. He earned a BSc in Biomedical Science from the University of Waterloo, an MSc in Global Health from McMaster University, and a PhD in Medical Science from the University of Toronto. Keith integrates experiential learning into his courses through community-engaged projects and co-operative education opportunities. He is passionate about enhancing career development and mentorship for undergraduate students and research trainees. He also serves as External Affairs Officer for the Canadian Arthritis Trainee Association, supporting the professional growth of trainees conducting arthritis research across Canada.
