Support for students affected by the US Travel Ban

Posted on behalf of Beatrice Ballarin, International Student Representative, IMSSA

I am writing to you in light of the recent change in policy by the US government banning citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the United States for a period of 90 days. This decision affects not only the Muslim population living in the United States, but also the international students in our department that plan to attend scientific conferences during the next months, or want to visit family members.

As the student body representative for international students, I want to assure the students affected by this decision that they have the full support of IMSSA and the IMS.  I encourage those who need it to get in contact with the department or IMSSA to find available resources on-campus or simply to find a welcoming group during these difficult times.

You can reach the IMS by contacting dir.medscience@utoronto.ca.
To contact Beatrice and IMSSA you can email commims@gmail.com.

Excellent resources to keep up to date with what is going on are the Centre for International Experience & Safety Abroad Office.

Lastly, I want to remind and echo the message from President Meric Gertler and the supportive position that Uof T has taken:

As always wishing you all the best,
