Doctoral Completion Award

The Doctoral Completion Award (DCA) is intended to support full-time PhD students who are beyond the funded cohort and within the time limit of their degree.

Eligibility and Conditions of Award:

In addition to local criteria, applicants for the DCA must be:

  • beyond the funded cohort as established by graduate department practice
  • within the time limit for the degree
  • in good academic standing as defined by the IMS
  • a full-time PhD student.

The value of the awards is established by the IMS and is subject to change.

Master’s Tuition Fee Bursary

The Master’s Tuition Fee Bursary (MTFB) is intended for master’s students in both course-based and research-based programs who are beyond the program length required for their degree, but who still have a small amount of work outstanding, due to unanticipated factors that are beyond their control.

MTFB applications are accepted for students who complete their degree requirements in either the Fall or Winter sessions. This bursary is not available during the Summer session. Students cannot use this bursary in order to register.

Criteria for applying are as follows:

1. Beyond the program length required for their degree;

2. Registered full-time from the beginning of their program;

3. Currently registered full-time in the final session of their program (fall or winter session only);

4. Still within the time-limit for their degree
5.  Outstanding academic requirements must be minimal and must be completed before the appropriate application-deadline.
6.  Have defended and submitted their final thesis by the deadline date.

SGS Emergency Grant

The Program is intended to assist currently registered, full-time, graduate students beyond their first year of studies who generally are not part of the funded cohort, and who encounter an unanticipated serious financial emergency. It is not considered to be a source of routine or long-term funding.

SGS Emergency Loan

This loan alleviates temporary cash flow problems for students who are expecting to receive a payment from a scholarship or loan in the near future. The maximum loan amount is $1000 and is interest-free until the mutually agreed upon repayment date.
