I’m a PhD candidate working on understanding neural coding of somatosensory information. I use electrophysiology, optophysiology (wide-field and multiphoton fluorescence microscopy), optogenetics, and behavioural neuroscience to address my research questions. My goal is to develop a comprehensive understanding of neural coding to explore the cause of and persistence of neuropathic pain, with the aim of guiding treatment strategies for better clinical outcomes. I can imagine that by clearly understanding how the nervous system encodes somatosensory information we can work to design ways to change the encoding step of neural signal transmission and establish that as an end point in therapeutic development.
