Lucy Osborne Appointed Director of IMS

The Institute of Medical Science is pleased to announce that Dr. Lucy Osborne has been appointed Director of IMS for a five-year term, effective July 1, 2026. The appointment was approved by the Agenda Committee of the Academic Board.

Dr. Osborne has provided outstanding leadership as Interim Director, advancing excellence in graduate education and translational research. Her tenure builds on a longstanding commitment to IMS, where she has previously served as Graduate Coordinator, Acting Director, and Associate Director, consistently demonstrating dedication to student success and interdisciplinary collaboration.

A Professor in the Department of Medicine, with cross-appointments to the Department of Molecular Genetics and IMS, Dr. Osborne is an internationally recognized leader in human genetics. She previously held a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in the Genetics of Neurodevelopmental Disorders and is a recipient of the Premier’s Research Excellence Award. She earned her PhD in Human Genetics from the University of London, UK, and completed her postdoctoral training at The Hospital for Sick Children.

Throughout her career, Dr. Osborne has strengthened graduate training through meaningful engagement with Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) research institutes and partners across the University of Toronto. Looking ahead, IMS will also become the graduate home of the new Master of Physician Assistant Studies program, based at the Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health — further expanding its impact in health education.
