The Institute of Medical Science has launched a new part-time, thesis-based Master of Science (MSc) program designed specifically for clinicians who want to pursue graduate research training while continuing full-time clinical practice.
The program responds to growing interest from healthcare professionals seeking to strengthen their research skills, contribute to health discovery, and bridge clinical practice with academic inquiry without stepping away from their careers.
“This new program recognizes the reality of clinicians’ schedules and professional careers while maintaining the rigor and depth of graduate research training offered by IMS,” says Lucy Osborne, IMS Interim Director. “It creates a unique pathway for clinicians to investigate research questions grounded in real-world healthcare challenges.”
Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, employed full-time in their healthcare discipline, and hold current licensure or certification in an Ontario Regulated Health Profession. Applicants must also secure an IMS faculty supervisor prior to admission.
Supervisors provide mentorship throughout the four-year program and support project-related costs, such as statistical consultation or publication fees.
An online information session will be held April 28 at 1:00 p.m., offering prospective applicants an opportunity to learn more about the program structure, expectations, and application process.
The Fall 2026 application deadline is June 1, 2026.
More information, including detailed eligibility criteria and application requirements, is available on the IMS website.
