Dr. Carol Westall uses an integrated clinical-research approach which ensures that clinical questions will guide research directions. New discoveries from research are translated diagnostic techniques and advanced clinical management that can be directly applied to bedside. Dr. Carol Westall obtained her PhD from the University of California (Berkeley); she is a visual electrophysiologist, Optometrist and Senior Scientist at SickKids. Under her direction, the Visual Electrophysiology Unit became a world leader in clinical paediatric visual electrophysiology. Westall is associate editor of Documenta Ophthalmologica, the journal of the International Society for Clinical Visual Electrophysiology and Vision and a past board member of the Society. She is Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (FARVO), Fellow and Diplomate of the American Academy Optometry (AAO) and Chair AAO Admittance Committee for applicants for Vision Science Fellowship. Carol leads a clinical research program focused on the interface between disease or toxically induced cellular changes and neuro-retinal function in childhood.
