Dr. Benjamin Lok is a Clinician Scientist and Staff Radiation Oncologist at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network. At the University of Toronto, Dr. Lok is appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology and an Associate Member in the Institute of Medical Science.
Dr. Lok obtained his MD in from New York University, followed by an internship in Internal Medicine at the New York University Langone Medical Center. He subsequently completed his Radiation Oncology residency and postdoctoral training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Lok has received extensive training in laboratory research; initially mentored by Dr. Simon Powell on DNA damage and repair response then by Dr. Charles Rudin where Dr. Lok investigated the role of PARP inhibitors and epigenetic modifiers in small cell lung cancer. Dr. Lok has published over 25 peer-reviewed papers, in journals such as Cancer Cell, Oncogene, Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer, and Nature Communications. He has been the recipient of many awards, including the prestigious Career Development Award of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 2018. Dr. Lok has also successfully secured peer-reviewed funding from the Radiological Society of North America, Lung Cancer Research Foundation, and the International Society for the Study of Lung Cancer. Dr. Lok’s research focus is directed towards improving outcomes for lung cancer patients by understanding mechanisms of resistance and developing novel therapeutic strategies.
