Early Consideration Deadline – February 1
*The early consideration admission deadline for Fall registration is February 1. Prospective applicants applying to the February 1st must submit a complete application by this date. The complete application consists of: Updated CV, Statement of intent, 3 reference letters and your academic transcript(s).
The benefits to submitting an early application for consideration are:
- consideration for internal and external awards
- more time to secure research supervision
- advantage of departmental initiatives
Application to the Institute of Medical Science graduate program is available online via the School of Graduate Studies Admissions Application website. Your application will be considered after payment of the application fee is received by the School of Graduate Studies. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
It is the applicant’s responsibility to make sure that all required documents are submitted by the application documentation due date. You can check the status of your application on the online application website. References are submitted by referees via the online application website. Applicants must upload to the online application website their updated CV, Letter of Intent and copies of all academic transcripts from institutions attended. Have your academic institution(s) mail the IMS office official copies of your transcript(s) to the address listed on the transcript request form.
English language testing results must be sent directly to the IMS office. However if you take the TOEFL test, the code for forwarding your results directly to the University of Toronto, School of Graduate Studies is 0982. For international applicants, it is mandatory that you upload a letter from your potential supervisor indicating acceptance of supervision and funding commitment.
Interview with the IMS Graduate Coordinator
Applicants will be contacted by the IMS Admissions Officer regarding setting up an interview time to meet with the Graduate Coordinator to discuss their application to the graduate program. After the interview, the application will be forwarded to the IMS Admissions Committee. At this point, applicants will either be denied admission or provided with a conditional “Offer of Admission” which indicates that the application is acceptable thus far. In some cases, the Committee will defer their decision until other information is received.
Admissions Committee Review
The IMS Admissions Committee will review all completed applications. The Committee meets once or twice a month to review applications. In order for your application be reviewed at a Committee meeting you must have completed your interview at least two weeks prior the meeting date.
You will be notified in writing after your application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee.
Conditional offer of admission must be cleared by the deadline allowing students to pay their fees and register in the graduate program. It is mandatory that all incoming students attend the orientation session. Routine communication is conducted throughout the year via email and the website.
